Light Wind Musing

The wind progressively reduced yesterday and overnight. There was a little
this morning, and nearly none now. Since the GRIB weather forecast had
predicted this, I kept putting off running the engine to charge the batteries
until we were making very little headway. That has now given us full
batteries and a bit of forward progress for 3 hours, but it’s over, and
we’re sitting going almost nowhere.
If Ruth was here she’d be on the foredeck soaking up the rays, but that’s
not my idea of fun (she is also hardier in the cold – although bright and very
sunny, it’s also pretty chilly on deck).
The temperature has been an unexpected feature of this trip. We arrived in
Halifax and it was twenty six C. Once in the marina it fell and remained
very chilly – typically eight C inside the boat at night needing two jumpers on
top of the tracksuit in the sleeping bag, and just two jumpers and a wooly hat
when we were working on her during the day. These sorts of temperatures
have continued at sea, and the dress code has remained similar.
Last year Neil and I started off like this and just over a week into the
trip everything went warm, and pretty well stayed that way until arrival in
Halifax. Just musing on things – without much stuff happening on deck,
musing is the way to go !
