Virgin Gorda Sound right at the north end of this island. The VGYC is a
hotel resort that is dedicated to sailing, and thoroughly encourages
visiting yachts to come in and enjoy their facilities.
Yesterday we lazed around in the morning swimming off the boat and doing a
large clean up job. We all feel so much better when we are shipshape.
The afternoon was really hot so we took Aurelia through the narrow passage
and out to the barrier reef for a few hours snorkeling. The crew of "Hark"
Andrew and Elka, and their friend Dave came with us. Hark are friends of
D'Accord and we have been sailing in company for the last few days.
We swam around as a big group amongst the reef fish - concluded that it
wasn't as good as Charlotteville but was as good as the Grenadines. We saw
an enormous boxfish which was quite extraordinary, lots of coral fish, and
some quite big rays. Jamie had a lot of fun picking up live conch from about
6m down.Chrissie made great step forward by diving to the bottom too and
picking up some shells, although it was much shallower where he was.
We returned to our anchorage tucking in behind Saba rock and picked up a
mooring buoy as there was little room left to anchor.
Shirley went ashore to Bitter End (love the name!) to shop earlier in the day and enjoyed iguanas walking down the path, and hibiscus and bougainvillea in the gardens. Everyone is also enjoying the turtles (some very large ones too) swimming around the boats and swimmers in the water.
After dinner we went ashore to the open air movie theater and watched "Nanny
McFee", which the kids all thoroughly enjoyed.
Today's weather is not in the brochure - its been blowing hard all night
with heavy rain from time to time. Looks like it will continue during the
day today as well. Good chance to catch up on email and school work!
