Our week of preparation in Las Palmas seems to be flying by. All the crew have been busy most days either organising the provisioning, radio comms, rigging checks, fishing gear etc in addition to attending various ARC seminars on weather and routing, first aid and safety throughout the week.

The Ula 'die hard' running club, namely Andy C, Howard and yours truly has been in action most mornings with part-time members John and Andrew being tempted out only once so far. The turn-out seems to be inversely proportional to the previous evening's alcohol intake! On the subject of partying- there is a great atmosphere here with crews of all nationalities joining in the fun. Wednesday night saw the Ula 'pirate crew' attending the ARC fancy dress 'Tobago Caribbean Carnival' at the Sotavento Club and some serious partying in to the early hours. Many thanks to Andrew's wife Nicola for organising our costumes for us (see photo). If only our skipper looked like Jonny Depp!! The party theme continued last night with a 'Pontoon 16' party along our pontoon which was good fun.

Andy C has jumped ship to join wife Cazababe who flew in yesterday. Jenny is arriving back in Las Palmas this evening after her sailing course in the South of the island. We are all going out with the crew of Libertad tonight to a restaurant we found while here in October.

Tomorrow will be for last minute shopping, boat cleaning and generally getting ready for the off on Sunday. Getting out of the marina to the start line with 230 boats trying to do the same thing could be interesting!

'Just put your hand on my underpants  ...Andrew to Andy C re the state of his laundry........!
