Ula and crew moored up in Marina Sada, Fontan in the Ria de Betanzos (a few miles from La Coruna) around 5pm BST yesterday evening 9 August. At time of blogging (11am BST, 10 Aug) we are on the move again (motoring, as no wind) around from Fontan to Camarinas or Baiona (decision to be made later when we get the next weather forecast) with our friends on Libertad who joined us in Marina Sada last night.

Following my mid-Biscay blog on Friday we had a pretty uneventful second half to the trip, sailing until approx 5pm when the wind died and then motor sailing for the next 24 hours. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset and the night was very clear with a bright moon lighting the way and millions of stars. When the moon finally sank below the horizon we had just the stars for company. Laura and I were on watch together from 3-6am and sat listening to her ipod with an earphone each.

A sea mist drifted in and out during the early hours and we picked out a few fishermen who appeared to be 'pair-trawling' as we went along. Dawn broke around 4.30-5.00 am and the sun rose around 6am. The sunrise was even more spectacular than the sunset and it was soon very warm.

Spain came in to view during the late morning and as we closed the coast we could make out the villages and beaches.

The Ria (estuary) de Betanzos was very pretty and Marina Sada very friendly. The berth we had been allocated was downwind and blowing 'off' so the marina guy helped us with our mooring ropes. Having been to Spanish classes since November I launched in to  'thanks very much for your help' in my beginners Spanish only to be told he was Irish! Oh well.............

Captain John's legendary linguistic skills (spk English slowly in a foreign accent, point and offer his credit card) seemed to have worked this morning. We managed to pay and fill up with diesel before setting off!
