We didn’t get the clean start that we wanted, we ended up missing the start time for the catamarans as we had a bit of trouble putting up our main sail. The flying kangaroo got stuck around the main halyard. It looked like we were heading towards Morocco there for a little bit. We crossed the start line at 1:08pm along with the monohulls. It is really picturesque seeing all the sails out, particularly as the sun set. We started in heavy seas and 30 + knot winds all night! its been a rough first day.

We sailed towards Africa with our Main sail and genoa out, averaging just under 8 knots - pretty happy with that. We could see a few of the other Arc boats right up until this morning - we are keeping pace with some of the monohulls. This morning we put up our Parasailor and are now flying down the south coast of Africa, hopefully we will catch up with some of the catamarans that got a head start on us (but its not a race…)

Stevie caught our first fish today, we think it might be a Benito. Will be having fish for dinner tonight!
