Hi there,
Just a quick note to confirm that we have departed
the San Blas and are now in Portobello on the Panama
mainland.
We stopped off for a few days by the island of
Linton on the way, about 10 miles north east of Portobello. We and the rally
members had a couple of excursions together by dinghy while there. One was
through the mangrove swamp (keeping a lookout for crocs) to a small marina that
has a French restaurant (trust the French to be able to produce good food...
even in the jungle). We also went to nearby Isla Grande, this was for a walk
through the small town and a climb to the lighthouse. We needed the exercise as
we have been confined to the boat for a few days.
Isla Linton is pretty, but is uninhabited except
for a troop of very aggressive monkeys. They come chargeing out of the forest
screaming and howling if you get too close in the dinghy.... so no trips ashore
there.
We will be staying in Portabello for the weekend
before moving into a marina at Colon at the Caribbean end of the Panama Canal. I
will update the blog when we get settled in there.
Best Wishes,
J&G
