We have been in the Abacos for several days now, gradually making our way northwards in company with the 2 American boats that we met in Georgetown. First stop was off Sandy Cay where a “Coral Garden” is highlighted in the guide book. We all took the “Dinks” (American for dinghy) and our snorkelling gear and went over that way. Wow! A pristine reef with loads of fish of all different colours.

We then went up to Hope Town. This is a rather twee touristy town that has been taken over by second home Americans. The harbour and anchorage was however full, so we headed over to Marsh Harbour about 5 miles away where we are currently anchored. We took the local ferry across to Hope Town for Sunday lunch and a walk about. All very pretty with “Gingerbread” type houses overlooking the sea and a fabulous beach. We also rented a golf cart and took a drive down “Millionaires Row”, which is where all the serious money goes. Have picked out our spot!

Marsh Harbour is nice also, though it is more of a working town. There is a large anchorage here with lots of boats. It has some good shopping, so we will probably stay here a while yet and provision up before we start to think about positioning for the crossing to the US. There is some more bad weather predicted for over the Easter period, so we will probably wait for that to pass before we move off.

Best Wishes,
