Hello,

Well, after an enforced stay in Haiti with a leaky water pump in the engine, we managed to leave when a replacement finally arrived.

Had a long and hard trip east, under motor most of the way, to Ill Beata in the DR. As soon as we arrived we were visited by the coast guard who took some details, poked around a bit and then asked for $50 for "Anchoring Fees". I had spoken to other people who confirmed that there is no anchoring fees here, though sometime it is requested. So I said that I would pay that in Barahona (our main point for checkingig-in to the DR) and offered a small bottle of rum. This was accepted and they gave me 3 live lobster in return and departed (Welcome to the DR!).

Anyway, the engine performed like a trooper the whole 30 hours it took to get here (Less about 3 hours when we actually sailed). But the winds are quite strong right now so we need to wait till they abate a little. Will send another update when we get to Barahona.

Best Wishes,

John & Georgina
