We left Moorea at 12:30 on the 1st July and arrived at a mooring in Tahaa, the northern island in the Raiatia atoll at 09:00 the next day. A 129 mile trip in total. A bit of a rough ride but we landed up reefing down to the 2nd reef in the main and no jib to slow us down so that we would not arrive during the night. We transited the pass into the east side of the atoll at day break.

I have been given a schedule change form Subsea 7. Instead of being required in the UK for mid December I now have to be available for the end of September. Quite a radical change that now has us missing the rest of French Polynesia and heading directly for Tonga. We are now scheduled to arrive in Australia the first week in September which will mean missing a number of stops in Tonga and Fiji.

I will update some of the blog photos during the passages but there aren’t going to be many photos on the next few legs other than of the sea which seems to please Alex Jardine but probably not many other people.

We met up with a boat called Bagheera in Tahiti and they were at the mooring here in Tahaa when we arrived. The owners are a British / Australian / New Zeeland bloke, seems to be collecting nationalities, and a Thai lady called Nok. Anyway it was a call for a beer or two and a catch up on all things Thai.

Going out to dinner tonight. The deal is that you pay the yacht club $20 for the mooring or have dinner at their restaurant, which costs $20 per head and the mooring is free. A good excuse for a meal out which will be the first in quite some time.

I hope to leave at first light tomorrow and we will be heading for Tonga with a potential stop in Nuie, the smallest independent country in the world. That will be the end of the fresh baggets which are available throughout French Polynesia at the smallest atoll or island. It will also hopefully be the end of $5 a can beers. Should save us a fortune and reduce the waist line.
