Irritations emerging

For anybody who does not own a boat (oh so wise!) it must be difficult to imagine the frustration that is involved. The problem, as I may have mentioned before, is that boats are not fit for purpose. There is almost no modern material that can withstand the rotting caused be sea water. When you combine the destructive effects with the enchanting laid back way of life in the Caribbean - the result is stalemate.

Tom and I arrived on Wednesday night after a 2 day journey. On Thursday we triggered (or thought we had) a sequence of events such as engine service and dinghy repair, and the workman was arranged for the following day. Friday dawned and, as predicted, nothing happened. Other more "important" jobs had cropped up - maybe Monday?

No need to worry about idle hands on board though. Tom has been upside down
In the engine compartment linking batteries ( generator battery as dead as a dodo), I have been sweltering on the deck applying coats of Semco to the toe rail, and we both spent some time yesterday putting sealant inside the rubber of the dinghy, spinning and turning it to coat the interior in the forlorn hope that the slow leak we had all last season (not so slow now) will be cured.
The BIG problem, however, is that the sensor for the automatic bilge pump is not working. We dare not put to sea until it has been replaced as we could be oblivious to the bilge filling up and ruining all the electrics just prior to us sinking.
On that note I will sign off. The aim still is to set out for Antigua by the end of the week. Wishful thinking can be a positive state of mind .......
