The journey back from Guadeloupe the day before yesterday was eventful.
We left the island at 05.50hrs. The remainder of our visit had been good. The rain forest awesome, with tall trees covered with opportunistic plants including orchids at the the low levels and Monstera that disappeared out of sight at dizzying heights.
The night before departure we bought a couple of baguettes for the journey and had a hilarious evening at one of the few restaurants that were open ( Tuesday in Deshaies is like Monday in France). Clearly they had a staff shortage so it took 3 hours to be served 2 of our 3 course menu whilst observing tables of hungry people come and go - having not even been approached by the only waitress to take an order. At one point a 20 minute shouting match developed between disgruntled departing customers and the waitress. She was then joined by the only chef who increased the decibel level so further delay in the kitchen. The highlight was large plates of lobster which hurtled across the floor as the waitress tripped whilst exiting the kitchen. The starving couple opposite almost cried....

Anyway the crossing back was almost as exciting. The forecast winds of 20 knots was a modest one - 30 knots across the deck for at least a third of the journey was nearer the mark. Tom was unimpressed. The drinks cupboard burst open with one particularly violent bump and a litre bottle of gin shot out, breaking the lid and releasing copious alcohol. One of the two baguettes could not be salvaged but I put the other one out to dry and the jambon blanc roll after arrival was to be recommended!

We are back in Freeman's Bay looking forward to Susie's visit.
Bye for now
