Readying for home

We left Antigua late last Friday to avoid an unpleasant blow due by
Saturday evening. Departure time allowed a last Tot, very enjoyable,
and thence it went downhill - no mainsail and a swell, and then no
wind. Boring and rolly. Boredom was relieved intermittently through
the night by fuel feed issues, I finally emerged from the engine
smelly and oily but sensibly(!) had started with little clothing on so
was able to consign them to the deep. Daylight brought a good size
Mahi on board, lunch was delicious and spirits high. Reverse gear
failed when anchoring at midnight, mood deepened again.
However North Sound VG as pretty as ever, we stay a few days and then home.

The least said about the journey the better. it was a good decision
to leave Antigua rather abruptly. Shortly after our arrival here the
wind started blowing big time. We had just anchored in North Sound ,
Virgin Gorda, and since then the boat has whirled around like a
ballerina but, thankfully, not dragged. Just about to go ashore and
try to find dollars ( the ATM on Saturday said thank you for your
custom x 2 but gave us no money!) As this is the Caribbean we now have
to go to the shore by dingy, take a water taxi followed by a car taxi
before arriving in Spanish town, where the banks may not even be open!
We are doing this with the Clafflins who are wisely on a mooring buoy
about 300yds away. Their story of check in failure deserves a separate
chapter - but I'll leave that to them!
Weather permitting we go back to the west end of Tortola tomorrow.
