If ever anything related to boats seems to be going well it always portends disaster.

After Tuesday and Wednesday, spent recovering from the journey and gradually unravelling the boat, yesterday we were busy, anti fouling the bottom of the dingy and in the pm, testing the generator and changing its oil. Disaster. The oil was dirty grey with the consistency of mayonnaise. Tom was instant in his diagnosis of water mixed in and, as the air cooling intake is at the bottom of the engine he looked in the bilges, and the water level was at an alarming height. We then discovered that at some stage whilst away, somehow the bilge pump had been switched off............
Several expensive cleansings later the oil looked ok and this morning we left the marina. The sail to North Sound was almost as good as it gets for an upwind sail, enough breeze and glorious sunshine such that we were able to spend 5 hours admiring our new mainsail. After anchoring near Saba Rock, vowing to stay here for at least a week ( my decision), we started up the generator so that the water maker could continue to run.
30 minutes later it overheated and conked out.
Blue air once more filled the boat and Tom decided we would have to sail back to Nanny Cay in the morning. Of course nothing will happen at the weekend but at least the batteries will be charged by shore power so that the freezer can keep the ice cubes solid.
It takes a calm and placid temperament to own a boat - Tom and I do not qualify.
Hoping the next entry will be more positive.
