From the sublime to the ridiculous. After the channel storms the Biscay calms. We are some 25 miles WSW of Ushant and drifting in fog, as we have been since last night. The French coastguard were very helpful and kept vessels clear as we 'sailed' at 2 knots across the shipping lanes. Thank you to the charming lady from CROSS CROSEN Ouessant Traffic on channel 79. And to the Deck Officer of FJORDTANK that reassured us from three miles away at fifteen knots that he was going to miss us by a 1/3 of a mile... Jolly times...

Thickest fog that Ed has seen - couldn't see the water from the cockpit... but lifted a bit now, though the wind has died to nothing and we are bobbing around with the sails down. Saw a small shark earlier and Jamie wondered is we could get it to tow us. Is that 'outside assistance' under the RORC rules?

We are waiting for north easterlies, but they may still be at least a day away. Oh dear. Starting to think about food and diesel rationing...

Come on wind, come on blue skies... cross your fingers for us...

Bored and cross kisses from The Owl
