With a new mainsail that didn't fit and a watermaker hat didnt make water we
thought we'd never start. But we made it. All a bit tired from getting the
boat ready and so not the best start. After rounding Bembridge we went
inshore to find some less unfavourable tide which worked well and took us
back into a strong position. Sometime in the middle watch Ed's watch (Keith
and Katharine) were woken by Richard's watch (Simon and Ginny) as they
called starboard at Puma Logic off St Catherine's Point. From their bunk's
Ed's watch could hear the plaintiv, 'we know!' from Puma Logic as she tried
to turn... In he light airs she was going nowhere and we gamely dipped
round her ( by a couple of feet).
We came fairly close in to St Alban' Head, but that didn't seem to help so
much, and Talisman, that we overtook by going deep into Sandown Bay got the
better of us in Christchurch. At 0854A we are in the middle of Lyme Bay,
Talisman in sight ahead, and apparent wind of 3 knots.
Has to be said that Ginny's beef stew (Mrs Beeton's recipe) that ate off
Bembridge was awesome.
