Whitehills to Lossiemouth

This was an easy trip along the Moray coast to Lossiemouth ( 57:43.5N, 003:16.7W). With our new found trick for sailing / motorsailing upwind we made good progress into the wind coming more or less directly from ahead. Once again there was plenty to see along the coast, and we easily made our schedule for arriving at Lossiemouth whilst there was still enough tide to allow us to enter the harbour.

Lossiemouth was an interesting place. The harbour was pleasant, and the long beaches of this part of the Moray Firth come right up to town, making for pleasant walks. The town itself is very small, and it either does not have any real centre, or we simply could not find it. It also seems as if all the good people of Lossiemouth stay indoors.....the streets were deserted. Against this sleepy backdrop comes the deafening roar of RAF Tornados going round and round in circles practising landings and formation flying all day, from RAF Lossiemouth which actually adjoins the town. The place feels even sleepier when all this aviation activity ends precisely at 6pm before restarting at 8.30.....hopefully any future  enemies will observe a strict 8.30 am to 6pm fighting day as well.

We had considered staying for a rest day in Lossiemouth, but this idea was quickly abandoned, both to make the most of the weather, and to escape the aircraft noise. We began to understand why the residents kept themselves shut away indoors, presumably behind soundproof double glazing.
