This was to be the day the Swedes celebrated midsommer, and we decided to head for Sannas ( 58:44.5N, 011:14.8E) since Fjallbacka looked as if it would get very noisy for the night. This was the first trip for the new crew of Nic and her husband Chris, who had joined in Fjallbacka, and it was to be another day of blue skies and some good wind.

 

This was another good mixture of some open water and some narrow channels between islands, with Nic doing most of the helming, through both sailing and motoring.

 

Sannas turned out to be a very quiet and small settlement down a longand very beautiful fjord, with some outstanding holiday residences down by the water. The marina was also very small, and we simply tied alongside a pontoon in the fjord, with fantatstic views across to the other side. The midsummer celebrations here were fairly restrained and had very much a small village feel to them. We were told by one of the residents that the village was now almost entirely given over to holiday houses, and almost half were owned by Norwegians. This became a common theme as we travelled further north in Sweden, with increasing numbers of Norwegian boats and Norwegian flags flying outside holiday cottages.

 

All in all a very good first day for Nic and Chris...and Chris was even brave / foolish enough to take a swim in the cold water.....even a neighbouring Norwegian boat looked on in stunned silence !
