Just 4 nms before the entrance to Padstow near the Quies rocks, the engine suddenly stopped after a day of motor sailing, the wind being on the nose. There just happened to be a RNLI training exercise going on, so my plight was quickly dealt with through a tow by the Padstow life boat and their mooring for the night in the camel river.

A new power unit was received by courier at Padstow to replace the one that had crashed 2 days earlier so I fitted it.

Then, to sort out the engine problem. The whole fuel tank was removed with difficulty, the fuel lines blown clear (one was blocked), the filters cleaned out and what was discovered was the largest diesel bug that I have ever seen! Bits had been breaking up, clogging up the fuel system. With bad weather, high winds and maintenance to be done, 3+ days were spent in Padstow.
