Today was probably the best weather enjoyed since I came to Ireland. Hot sunshine however gave way to no wind. A small craft warning of Force 6 wind this afternoon for 24 hours gave me about an hour’s sailing on the last leg to Kilmore Quay, as I passed a wind farm on the shore at Carnsore Point. Today I covered 78 nms at speed owing to the strong tidal push for much of the way.

The total distance sailed around Ireland was 956.7 nms, but with the passages included from my start point in Poole, one can add another 450.5 nms, totalling 1407.2 nms. Assuming that the return trip to Poole should be much the same, adding a further 450.5 nms would bring the total trip to 1857.7 nms. I have compared this to the 2226.5 nms which I travelled in Gemini for my circumnavigation of GB in 2019.

Arriving back at Kilmore Quay could not have been more different to place I stayed in late June: high winds, rain and grey, cold days. Now I just have to get back to the West Country with Gemini in due course, probably leaving here in a couple of days.
