There are 4 full pages of mandatory safety requirements for the ARC. The lifejackets themselves are impressive bits of kit, as well as the usual whistle and glow light, each has a lifesaver line, spray hood (to stop the waves crashing over and taking in too much water), an emergency personal locator beacon and man overboard beacon.

We’ve done the sea survival skills course (getting into a bobbing liferaft with full sailing gear on is hard in even in a swimming pool).  Craig’s the doctor, surgeon and dentist all in one, we have full medical kit on board, including an AED … but no anaesthetic!

Let’s hope we never need to use any of it!
