Day 11 on the good ship Fizz:
The increase in windspeed which I spoke about
yesterday came ok, but not quite as planned. It came earlier, lasted longer and
blew a bit harder.
We worked at getting the correct sail setup and
settled on a reefed main with a small amount of genoa. It was'nt the easiest to
steer the boat and following one gybe (controlled by a preventer) where the main
got backwinded we had to make some further adjustments.
As a result of the gybe, two battens became
dislodged from their pockets so we had to drop the main. Repairs still to be
carried out before nightfall.
The wind subsequently increased and under headsail
alone we were getting 20 -25 kn apparent with the wind at 170 apparent. speed
was good at 7-8 knots going more or less in the correct direction.
Some yachts further N at 18 degrees experienced
winds of 48 kn.
Cuisine has been a little less ambitious than
normal and today for lunch we had potatoes with mojo sauce (scrumptious)
followed by some cheese and an apple.
Just a formal thanks to paul who helped sort out
our blog problem.
All are well on board, and looking forward to some
improvement in the weather. Today is quite cloudy as you can imagine after such
a blow last night and ongoing.
Saw one flying fish who left the water into the
wind, turned right and vanished into the distance at about 80 mph.
Will be back tomorrow with another
report.
P.S. before i got to send it, its now 19.50 UT and
all the jobs are done, main back up and currently on a course of 276M to st
lucia. there has been yet another wind shift and the NE trades are
now blowing from 130M. I reckon we should rename them. Its still good and bright
here but we are starting to do the final check around deck and be sure all
essentials are free to run
Bye for now
