Thursday, Day 18 13-12-2007.
Hi again, the distance is coming down and initial
preparaations are being made for landfall. I filled out the customs declaration
( in triplicate) giving details of the crew and stocks of spirits, cigarettes
etc on board.
The weather has really settled and the daytime is
gorgouus with 20 - 25 kn following wind and a steady rolling swell (most of the
time) the sun is up and its quite hot. We are curremtly sailing under mainsail
alone, we have not considered using downwind sails as they can cause some
problems in these conditions. Preservation of the rig is really more important
at this stage.
We have seen very little wildlife throughout, we
saw a storm petrel and a booby today which represents the greatest diversity in
any one day.
I was sailing along this morning and in front of me
there was a cloud the exact shape of a turkey as it would come out of the oven,
I think its a sign Anita.
Nedless to say we have no fresh fruit or veg left
but we are getting on the finest with pasta, rice, we do have onions and a huge
variety of "jarred" sauces / flavours.
Tomorrow will probably be our last posting before
we make landfall, hopefully I can send a few photo's when we get
ashore.
Until tomorrow,
Bye from Fizz
