Day 17 on Fizz

We are continuing on our final leg to st lucia with just under 400 miles to go. Its a little frustrating to hear that boats in our group have started to finish and we are trapped in this downwind situation where a gybe will do nothing for our direction.

We had a really pleasent sail yesterday, lovely conditions and moving just south of our target. Last night however was a little more difficult as the wind came up to 22-26 kn. This is not so bad during daylight but in complete darkness and being totally focussed on the apparent wind angle it can get quite tiring. At one stage, early in the evening
I was on watch when there was a squall with 32-34 kn apparent over the quarter, we had a full main at the time and I can assure you it focusses the mind very sharply.

After surviving that onslought we dropped the main and continued under genoa alone (partially furled nedless to say)

We had a lovely dinner last night, prawns cooked a la Tim with rice and a nice glass of sauvignon blanc.

Todays plan is to continue towards the target on the current gybe, our cog is 275 and our desired course is 284, we're making 6.5 to 7 kn and all on board are well. We can nearly smell the rum punches, nearly!

Hope you're all well at home and surviving the horrible weather.

Until tomorrow,
Fizz out.
