Arrived off Pwllheli at 22.20 Tuesday 21st June in a F4/5 South westerly. With no autopilot it took a bit of time getting the sails off and the ship ready for entry into the river. There are a lot of new bright lights (not navigational)on the land and the approach in the dark was not as I remembered. Basically it is an act of faith as you round Gimlet rock, watching the depth meter, and looking for the first starboard green light on the end of training wall. Although it was near full moon it was a very black night, it was high tide springs and the training wall was below the surface. So you were looking for and following a trail of little red and green lights in a wide expanse of open water with under lying unseen dangers. Obviously I got in safely but I found it was a test of nerve with a few tense moments before I got to the familiar trot of moorings. Perhaps I should go out and come in to my home port more often after dark to improve my competence and confidence?

It was a testing Jester Challenge!
