Report on behalf of Roger/Dad continued from 4 June............

Paul had come up with a plan that Dad could use his spinnaker halyard for the jib.  So he rang round several Dehler dealers (thank you to Inspiration Marine Group, Hamble) to discuss Dehler rigging.  He established that it was possible to attach the jib to the spinnaker halyard as long as you didn't use the furling device (winds up the sail around the halyard) as this could wrap around the fore-stay (wire that holds the mast up) and bring the mast down.

Received a phone call from Dad at 12.00 Noon.  He sounded a million times better.  He had eaten and slept for a few hours.  He had also thought to use the spinnaker halyard and it was working OK.  He had managed to attach it in such a way that it was outside the fore-stay and, therefore, in no danger of winding round it.  He was now underway again and heading in a south westerly direction.  This does mean that if he needs his spinnaker he will to have take down the jib.  He may try to go back up the mast if he gets a prolonged calm spell.

Unfortunately, this delay means that he has not got as far south as he would of liked and is, therefore, in for a rough night with 35knot winds.  Then a short respite until another low pressure system Monday morning.

He continues on his way battered but not beaten. And finally a thought for the day................
