The First Season Blog:
After finishing the ARC and resting/mending/eating
and drinking/fiddling in Rodney Bay Marina for 5 Days we decided it would be a
good idea to move out; out of the Caribbean Party/Caravan Park/Chairman's (rum)
Pool/Captains Paradise. So we invited David and his wife Linda to join us for a
day sail to Marigot Bay 8 miles south of the CP. The journey got off
to a great start at the fuel dock where we found out that the fuel pump nozzle
didn't fit. This meant I (Deck-hand/fuel dock assistant) had to use a funnel and
trickle the diesel into the tank at 3dpm(drops per minute)so as not to get it on
the teak. Eventually with an almost full tank we "poodled" (motored slowly
- ask David) out and hoisted the sails.
Arriving in Marrigot Bay we were rushed at by the
local "helpfuls" just to watch them rush off again when the authority arrived -
a bigger badder friendlier dreadlock Rasta who then helped us moor in the
dark. Once tied down we all put on shirts to go get a bite to eat ( I was
forced ). We found a wonderful little restaurant on the water with a lit-up,
fish filled dingy dock called The Iguana... no we didn't eat Iguana but we did
all have the best Certified Black Angus Tender-loin ever... ever! and a
few tasty drinks to accompany the food.
The next day was spent just "chillin'"
until we found out that the locals were hosting a Fish Fry/Street
Party in the next bay. We set off in the tender just before dark only to
realise that our tender was not designed to do ocean crossings with 4 on board,
not to worry we made it there. I then raced the tender back to the boat with the
intention of then catching a water taxi to meat up with the rest. Please Read :
Reece's Water Taxi Adventure!
Eventually we all met up in a very "ethnic" little
fishing village where the main road was lined with locals selling lobsters,
crabs, fish cakes, turtle and something they call black-fish which
tasted to meaty to be fish but we didn't ask any questions. The party
was great, with local bands playing "Jump Up" music and the locals jumping up!
The whole scenario looked like a really friendly party in a coastal version of
Soweto. Amazing fun!
Unfortunately we had to eventually say good-bye to
David and Linda today - Biggup and Respect!! They'll be representing Shaya
Moya and picking up our prizes at the ARC event tonight...
hopefully. Thank you to the both for all the help and fun.
So now it's just the two of us. Dad and I sailed
out of Marrigot Bay and down to Soulfreie today, and the Deck-hand was finally
promoted, well just for the day, to skipper. No, I didn't have anyone to Skip,
but I was allowed to sail down to Soulfreie on my own and be on the helm for the
mooring. Everything worked wonderfully and after sailing south at 7-knots we
moored (tied on to a big floaty-thingy) perfectly... which is more then I can
say for the 54' Najad that just pulled in... hehehehe *evil
grin*
That's all for today folks I'm off for a
swim
