Exotic Destination No. 2
Beaucette Marina, Guernsey Monday night's blog by Peter 49:30.15N 02:30.30W Sunday’s forecast SW Gale 8 was not the preferred weather to be leaving in. However with peak wind going through at 3am (according to Bob) we upped anchor under cloudy skies and a forecast of 5-7 SW veering NW and decreasing 4. Our last view of England was the rain drawing a curtain across Anvil Point. Wind 5-7 SW was accurate but it never veered or decreased. We bounced across the channel, shot through the Alderney Race (15.4 kts max speed over the ground) then had a tedious tack for the rest. Serendipity went well into wind with just the staysail and a reefed main. Coming into the marina had its moments – an 8m wide passage blasted through the rocks sounds plenty big enough till one remembers the boat is has a 5m beam. Next stop Gibraltar …. |
