- A bit nearer Ibiza. Honestly.
We've sailed across the Greenwich Meridien!
Maybe you're not excited but I was, or at least I would have been had I not been
asleep. It just feels like a bit of a milestone, although by the
time I get used to plotting longtitude forwards rather than backwards we'll
be back West again.
It was a very quiet day yesterday - actually that's
not true with the drone of the engine - as Chris found and fixed a squeak
at the end of the boom that's been driving us nuts. My body had just started to get used to all this sailing
again when we ended up motor-sailing, and then just motoring. Ah
well, at least we're travelling in a straight line now. The
coastline up to Cartegena was still very beautiful but just on from there we
left the Spanish mainland behind, heading for the Balearics. We didn't see
any dolphins for the first day in ages, what we did see was a toilet seat float
past. "At least there's no-one on it," remarked You-Know-Who.
I caught up on my sleep this morning as I've had
problems kipping the last couple of days. No idea why, there's been
plenty of opportunity and there's nothing worrying me. It's not a problem
Chris suffers from; he's so tired and sleeps so deeply, when I wake him for his
watch I'm often greeted with a confused _expression_ and, "Where am
I?". I'll only start to worry if he says, "Who am I?" I explain
gently, tell him his tea's in the sink (boaties will know why) and if there's no
movement a few minutes later I go looking for the boat hook.
The sea was eerily calm last night; I've seen
more waves on Windermere. Very spooky without the sound of waves
breaking against the hull. The nutters on channel 16 were very quiet, but
only 'cos I turned the volume down.
I thought I'd wake this morning to find Chris
disheartened with lack of progress, but no, he'd got out a full genoa and two
fishing rods and we're storming along. Over breakfast he said that
normally after a few days at sea he can't wait to get off, but this time he
doesn't want it to end. I'd like to think it's because we've had such a
good time on what has been our first time at sea for a few days with
just the two of us, and not because my mother's due to arrive on
Thursday... To follow our route in real time, track our AIS
