Back to Dartmouth

DecaDance has more than out-stayed her welcome alongside the workshop quay in Salcombe, and Darthaven Services are waiting patiently to install another load of hideously expensive kit, so Chris has invited his friend John to join him and Ryan for the short hop to transfer our boat to our home town. I dropped the two of them off, along with another boot full of stuff from our house (much to Ryan's dismay - wait 'til he sees what's left to come!). When we arrived, Ryan was winching our new (well, second-hand) tender onto the foredeck - we just need an outboard to go with it now.
Chris was right, the boat's a mess. It looks more like an engineering workshop than our new home and there's still loads of tools and gear to stow before they can leave for Dartmouth. I left them to it at six to go home and pack up more belongings to bring on the boat and wait for my family to arrive. They left Salcombe just before seven. On the drive along the coast road home, part of the prettiest bus route in England, Start Bay looked beautifully flat and calm - not so apparently when they sailed across it. There was a huge swell, the sea was incredibly lumpy and the boys were thankful it was just a short journey. They arrived just after nine and had to recover in the Ship Inn with fish and chips and lots of beer (poor them). I waited at home, building a huge log fire, last chance - can't do that on a boat. When I eventually picked Chris up he joined us all around the now (thankfully) dying down fire and promptly fell asleep. |
