I've finally rejoined Chris on board
DecaDance and this is where the adventures really begin. Gibraltar is one
of Chris's favourite places and he's lined up a list of activities he's been
waiting to do. On Saturday we spent the day on the beach at Catalan Bay on
the other side of the rock, possible only after the purchase of a sun-parasol
which I think we'll be getting lots of use of over the coming months.
Unfortunately the sea was icy cold so a little paddling was as much as either of
us could bear - it didn't stop the local kids though! Yesterday we walked
up to the World War II tunnels, and then back down again as they were
shut. It was a great walk though through quirky little side streets with
fabulous views over the Straights of Gibraltar, which resulted in four jelly
legs and three aching knees.
It's a bank holiday here
today and we're guessing the museum won't be open so instead we're off
to Camp Bay. Chris went there about a week ago; he'd planned on
walking through The Dudley War Tunnel to Sandy Bay but found it was closed to
pedestrians (he doesn't seem to have much luck with tunnels) so he had a long
walk along Europa Advance Road and then cut through Keightley Way Tunnel to Camp
Bay. He was carrying his T-shirt and a car came racing through the
tunnel and took his T-shirt on its wing-mirror! By the time Chris got to
Camp Bay he'd walked miles, he was shattered, he had a blister on his foot and
no T-shirt - bless him. He flopped down in a seat to order a cold
drink only to be told, "I'm sorry sir we can't serve you without a shirt
on." Chris's explaination didn't cut any ice but an ice-cream van saved
the day!
We're thinking of leaving on
Wednesday-ish and then we'll be day hopping along the Spanish coast to meet up
with family who are in Benalmedina and then over to Ibiza to meet my
mum.
