We'd sailed up to Manganui and back during the season and were now waiting for borders to open up. NZ is a traditional haven for ocean sailors during the austral cyclone season and now sailors were starting to move on after 2 years of lockdown.

Having been vaccinated courtesy of the NZ government, and with countries beginning to lift their Covid restrictions plans could at last be made.

In April we lifted out the boat in Opua, scrubbed the bottom and did all the usual prep work ready for sailing to Australia. Time moved quickly and it was soon time to say our sad farewells to NZ and our new friends.
