Left Niku Hiva at about 9.00am, its now 4.00pm and our position is 09.23.70S 140.27.56W cog 230 sog 6.4k. Wind 13k, sea state is bouncy. We are on our way to the Tuamotu Islands which will be about 5 days, don't know where we will land it depends on where we end up, not being ones for tough and uncomfortable sailing! Niku Hiva really got to us in the end, the constant snatch and roll were awful but the island is beautiful with such lush vegetation and great water falls running down the hills.
As for the dingy and outboard, outboard is fine and patch on dingy appears to be holding despite not having the right glue and Glen being inventive with compact glue and a hardener!! But it did go flat over night 2 of being inflated. Main sail is ripping up the leach coming apart in 3 places so I spent yesterday sewing a patch down one tear before we discovered the others, no time for further sewing so duck tape to the rescue.
We are in sight of Pat and Glen on Northern Rose but they have a different rig to us and a wind vane so their course over ground is different, also Glen will sail harder to wind than us as we don't like it and it makes the boat shudder with the Forestay vibrating, (we know fine tuning) as there's over 400 miles to go we don't care much about direction as long as its roughly the right way. We just want an anchorage where we don't roll with clear blue water, no sharks thank you and preferably with no one else there, we don't want much!
