BARONESS
Jim & Christine Lister
Tue 3 May 2011 17:37
Our position at 8.00am local time (14.00 UTC) was 00.07.34S 88.24.54W. SOG 3.1 COG 247 wind 10k from the south. We are still under sail but motored during the night as winds were slight and sails were flapping, we also needed to charge the batteries so it worked out ok.

We had quite a day yesterday, we saw whales at 11.26 off starboard midships about 3 miles away. Our position was 00.26.79N 87.17.13W. We saw them blowing and we also saw a tail, we haven't see that before and thankfully they were a good distance from us.

I cooked stew in the pressure cooker and burnt it. It was not quite inedible but definitely not one of my best meals. Jim was not grumpy!

At 02.23hrs we crossed the equator, as it was dark we didn't see the equator line in the water! We took some video of the moment and had a drop of rum also giving a drink to Neptune to appease him and perhaps now he will stop nicking our tools. We are now officially "shellbacks" Don't ask as we don't know what that means or where it comes from.

Today we are trying to slow down a bit as we only have 60 miles to go to the top of Isla San Christobal and a further 20 miles to Wreck Bay which is the designated anchorage. We want to be at the top of the island at first light not in the dark, then we can sail down the island and have a look what's about. Northern Rose will be in the anchorage by lunchtime,Laurigray arrived in Admiralty Bay Santa Cruz yesterday, they are finding it very rolly there. Both these boats are English and come from Yorkshire so the conversations on the net must have been baffling to the Yanks and Aussies.
