Friday Day 13

BARONESS
Jim & Christine Lister
Fri 27 May 2011 23:00
Our position at 9.00am was 06.05.18S 114.49.66W COG 265 SOG 5k Wind 12-15k ESE Waves 2-3m.
We averaged 6.1k speed over ground yesterday and covered 160.1nm which is really something for us, at some point today our max speed was 38k don't know when that happened! but these waves are sure traveling. We are goose winged with no reefs in, full sails whoopee! It has been less rolly with still some rolls but a bit more comfortable than it has been and as we are surfing at the moment we are managing to make water so its been showers all round. We had a busy day yesterday setting out the pole for the genoa and I did a load of washing and changed the bed, it was so nice to have clean sheets trouble is the dirty ones are still in a bucket, its the rinsing that's the problem not the washing bit. Jim tidied up the forward cabin again and had a line out. He caught 3 fish, the first was a large Mahi Mahi but it got to the back of the boat and then escaped. The second bite was a very small Mahi Mahi which he put back as it was very small and the third bite bit through the stainless wire leader and escaped, don't know what it was but with teeth that could bite through wire maybe we didn't want it on the deck anyway. Line now repaired and the intrepid hunter is again trolling and hoping for something different to minced beef that we've had rather a lot of as it needs eating due to no freezer.
The propagation on the SSB is not good at the moment and it took 2 days to send the last entry to the diary, hence the reason for it being late. We can use the Sat phone if necessary but it is more expensive so I will just persevere with the SSB.
We have put our clock back 1 hour so we are now 8hrs behind UK time. It's now 1.20pm our time and 20.20 UTC. We are due to put the clock back another hour in the next few days but can't bring ourselves to do it so soon after this change.
