We arrived at Pago Pago, American Samoa on 4 October 2011. Our position is 14.16.31S, 163.11.03W.

We came here due to problems with our autopilot ram. Our friend, Jeff, in Virginia, had arranged for one to be here waiting for us. It was sent by the US company Defender, and was here when we arrived, though it took us a couple of days to track it down. It is now fitted and working. American Samoa is classed as mainland US, so postage rates are the same as the mainland, so no need for Customs agents or expensive shipping charges. Our other issue was that our port side stay was coming adrift from the swage T bar fitting at the mast. This was the case when we left Palmerston Island and was the reason for the slow, but safe journey here.

There are no riggers and other such facilities here. The focus is on industrial sized fishing boats involved in the tuna industry; there are two tuna processing plants in Pago Pago. So, we decided on having a piece made up in the US and sent to us.
