BARONESS
Jim & Christine Lister
Tue 28 Jun 2011 00:58
Our position at 18.00 UTC was 12.15.08S 143.06.62W COG 220T SOG 5.5k wind SE 11-20K waves 2m. No entry for yesterday as we had a bad night with waves crashing around us, very lumpy bumpy squalls and just very uncomfortable. Not much sleep had by either of us and the day was as uncomfortable so I did not feel like hanging on trying to type a diary entry. We spent most of the day sleeping and reading. There has been no bicky making on this trip and quick meals in a bowl. We are eating Fridays french bread which is getting a bit on the hard side but there is no chance of me making anything fresh. We did have a light show Saturday night with blue and white lights flashing just under the water but we have seen nothing else of interest only big waves at the side of the boat that tip us sideways, screw us around and rock the boat from side to side. We still cannot make course for the middle of the islands but our heading looks like we can make Ahe which reads ok as long as we get there about mid day for slack water and sun in the right place to be able to see coral heads. We have under 200 miles to go to get there so should be in the lagoon by Wednesday.
The patches on the main sail are holding, dingy is still inflated but the dripless stuffing box continues to drip and seems to be getting worse. We also now have a leak from a fitting on the back of the boat so the bedroom carpet is wet, its the fitting Jim did in St Lucia we think and can't put duck tape on it as our decks are so wet with the constant waves crashing against us.
