Tuesday Day 17

BARONESS
Jim & Christine Lister
Tue 31 May 2011 23:47
Our position at 8.00am was 06.45.94S 123.54.66W COG 250 SOG 5k Wind ESE 10k Waves 1-2m.
I had been unable to send out our position of Sunday due to lack of propagation so it went Monday morning and Jim wanted the football results kindly sent in by our friends in England Martin and Gill. Sadly Hudersfield lost and Jim was disappointed.
We had a busy day yesterday, I made bread and pizza so we had pizza for tea. Jim caught another Mahi Mahi so its fish curry tonight and we have fish in the small freezer bit of our fridge. All fresh meat is now gone or gone off so we are down to fresh fish and tins. We have no fresh fruit or veg left either. We saw a big black fin off the port side in the morning and thought it was a whale but it turned out to be dolphins as we saw more fins and outlines but some of them seemed very big. In the afternoon late on we had 20-30 dolphins playing off our bow and surfing the waves beside the boat. These dolphins had white tips to their noses and were grey/tan in colour. They must have been with us for half an hour or so, in the past this has meant bad weather for us but we have decided that these dolphins were saying welcome and so far all we've had is a lack of wind, down to 3k in the night.
Yesterday we also realised that we have completed a third of the way round the world since leaving England in September 2007! I didn't get any French done yesterday but have done some today.
This morning Jim looked at the Garmin and we have 880 miles to go but only covered 120 miles in the last 24 hours. We had news of the anchorage in Hiva Oh this morning on the net and it seems its very full and rolly, therefore a stern anchor is required! That will be fun as we've not put a stern anchor out before and it will take us a bit of time to get the dingy in the water, lets hope someone nearby will give us a hand. We have looked at the other islands instead but this looks like the only place to get fuel, last we heard was that there wasn't any.
