Yesterday we finally departed Culebra after much messing with US Border Protection.
They finally faxed through our cruising permit that we will need if we ever want to go back to Puerto Rico.
As I was about to depart I noticed that it had been made out in the name of Michael Lerb-Speiegt...interesting!
We bid a sad farewell to Hark and headed out into a very confused sea from the stiff trade wind right on the nose,
and a heavy cross swell from a big storm far to the north.  We changed course and motorsailed through the passage
and around the north side of St John.  A fairly tough day but the mood lifted when we spotted whales spouting about
half a mile off.  Finally came into the marina in the pitch dark at 8pm.  We were glad we had been in before to check it out.
The haul out went ahead as planned at 0700 this morning, and then we set about hiring a car to drive to Sopers Hole to
clear ourselves in through customs and immigration.  The only car was a complete wreck, with the door panel sitting on
the passengers seat, and a few pieces missing.  Nevertheless I persisted and after making the required repairs ourselves,
they allowed us to take it.  The $45 was much cheaper than return taxi fares, and it gave us the opportunity to tour the island.
We had a lovely day looking around Tortola from the land side before returning to Nanny Cay for a swim and dinner on board.
Life at 2.5m above ground presents some new challenges - but it is only for a few days.
Looks like we will be re-launched on Thursday afternoon or Friday
Then it will be back to the USVI to meet up with Priscila who is flying in from Panama to join us for Shirley's birthday.
All looking forward to that!
We are having dreadful problems with our normal computer used for email etc - cant get it to go properly.
Hence communications have been much more difficult recently.  Forgive us if we owe you email!
