Departed Grand Case shortly before 0530 and dropped anchor in Great Harbour
Peter Island just under 12 hours later - 89 miles in confused seas. Wind
was right behind us and varied from 10 to 25 knots in rapid succession which
led us to run with just the genoa and engine. This made for an easy trip
and we arrived at Round Rock channel, the critical entry point to the BVI
cruising area, with plenty of time in hand before dark. Anchor down at 1715
so time for an ouzo and a swim before sundown.
Seems the anchorages with mooring buoys are crowded but the ones where you
have to use the anchor are relatively empty. It seems these charter boats
are as excited about anchoring as Shirley was in Greece. This bay is
perfectly sheltered from the swell and wind and about the size of Islington
bay on Rangitoto, but we are only sharing it with 20 other boats.
Saw some dolphins today - first time for ages. They played around boat for
a while and one of them did a spectacular back flip high out of the water.
We will go into Soper's Hole (West End) in the morning and do a spit and
polish on the boat for our VIPs who are arriving tomorrow night. We are
very excited about their visit!
