42:21.7N 71:02.1W - Boston Departure
Yellowdrama IV
Skipper/Crew: Blake and Clarissa Richter
Sat 12 Sep 2009 17:49
Hi All,
Just to let you all know we are finally departing from Boston,
USA for the Azores.
We have been set back by Easterly winds for the last 3
days that have kept us in port. There was little point sailing to windward
for 3 days and only making several hundred miles progress.
On board:
Blake Richter - Skipper - Australian
Clarissa Richter - First Mate/Food organiser etc! -
British
Sasha Lines - Watch Leader - British
Andrew Turton - Watch Leader - British
Steve Cortelyou - Crew - American
Mark Hayes - Crew - Irish
Everyone is pretty keen to get out there. It is pouring
with rain at the moment and hopefully it will decrease later today.
Winds should go more behind us as we get going which will be
good. We have favourable winds for the next week, but a low pressure
system will develop in our path over the next week. I will be in touch
with a weather routing guy who will steer us around the worst of
it.
We have absolutely no food issues on board and the booze is
being left behind!! 90 apples and 90 oranges each should keep us
scurvy-free provided we don't knock ourselves unconscious on the various nets
hanging around the saloon to hold it all. Turts (Andrew) has his
500lb breaking strain fishing line at the ready as we are told that there is
great fishing to be had as soon as we leave Boston Harbour & head out
towards Cape Cod. Some guys we spoke locally to caught 2 mako sharks out
there last Saturday so we have high hopes. Hope the tuna & marlin are
ready for us.
We all seem to be ready - sadly the Dubarrys and
Waterproofs have already been adorned (and soaked) before departure due to
the incessant rain which we have had since 07h00 this morning but at least we
are testing out their waterproofness at an early stage. Bad news if they
leak now.....
All the best from the crew of Yellowdrama!
