Day 15
At 0100Hrs we passed close by the Volcanic Island
of Saba - then we changed the sail plan to a staysail and half reefed main sail
and motor-sailed 20 degrees off the wind. Matchmaker seemed to settle
well and the passage became more comfortable.
The MARPA alarm was continuously going off as we
passed close by lots of Cruise ships whilst we tacked across and back, down the
Lesser Antilles channel between Saba - St Thomas, St Barts, and St Kitts. It was
a long night.
By Dawn we were approaching Christopher Columbus`
own island (St Christopher) St Kitts.
The seas flattened as we rounded the North west
Coast. Mount Liamuga - extinct Volcano looked dramatic as the dawn broke -
further down the Mountain we could see the aptly named Brimstone Hill. The
Lava flows were now fertile plains - and the Volcano Peaks were covered in Rain
Forest.
The crew stepped out on deck to brilliant sunshire
and a safe arrival at Basseterre Bay. Fully recovered!
- Cooked breakfast then Customs, and a kip.
27 hours and 164 miles to
windward.
