Since around 1900 hrs yesterday we have
been in ENE Trades ! - Very good for morale and very good for speed. We
are now averaging 9 knots and we are racing to St Lucia!
Our Food plan has worked well and so
far we have had very little waste. All the fresh fruit and vegetables we bought
from Local Market Traders in Las Palmas - they were sorted , washed, and dried
before being carefully stowed on board. Any items that looked suspect we threw
away and the riper items we have eaten first. We ordered our banans in three
grades of ripeness and we are still eating nice bananas. The apples and
oranges and lemons are all lasting well and we should arrive with good
produce still to eat. - For fruit the best stowage is a hanging net - as in the
picture. Tomatoes and other delicate items are in the cockpit fridge - (who
needs cold beer?).
At 8am this morning the Genset sounded
an alarm - Simon has spent most of the morning changing the impeller - and now
the system is in full working order again - before turning his attention to a
full cooked English breakfast... Thanks Simon!
Good news. Tina Tuna turned up..... A
beautiful 4 kg Yellow Fin Tuna was hooked at 12 noon. Gutted and in the fridge
in a record 10 minutes.We are planning a light supper at 8pm tonight - (
Wanna join us? We are 3hrs behind London ). She will make excellent eating
for the crew and we are looking forward to it. She is a Minted Silver colour
with blue topsides and yellow fins - a very attractive fish.
The days run was a respectable 196
miles. So far today we are continuing the fast speeds and the weather forecast
is finally a good one with steady trades!
