I am writing this blog as we approach the finish
line . We are about 10 miles out and will finish shortly after 12.30 local
time.
Everyone is busy cleaning and polishing and making
our Matchmaker a beautifull and shiney ship again. On the VHF we can hear lots
of excited yachts talking as they approach the finish line - it seems as if we
are all arriving together after having been apart for nearly 3000 miles. Last
night we challenged Papillion to a race to the the finish and Simon bet a bottle
of Rum to the winner. For the first two hours they pulled ahead - then we
changed tack and poled out an dstarted to claw ahead - by 2 am we were on thier
stern and by 6 am we had left them on the horizon. We can see them still -
now flying a spinaker and slowly gaining us - but we think we have thier
measure!
Life on board is now quite emotional - we are
excited about getting in and metting other contestants and of course Jen and
Peter are being met by Helen and Thomas who have flown out to St Lucia. The trip
has been a real adventure and now we shall enjoy our arrival......
We finished at 13.00pm local time - and are now
enjoying St Lucian hospitality. Great trip thanks to Jen, Calum, Katherine, and
Simon. For now we are signing off.....
