Two days on and the prevailing winds were back so we set off to Fuerteventura. The best of conditions enabled us to goose wing with the new pole past Lobos island reaching speeds of over 8 knots. The east coast of the island of Fuerteventura is dramatic with little opportunity to anchor for the night. Made Gran Tarajal by an early dusk due to heavy cloud cover.
Greeted at the marina by the security guard (truncheon and handcuffs on his belt). Quite a character, explained no toilets or showers because the harbour master was on holiday! Who's to complain at €12 a night with water and electricity included.
We enjoyed our stay which gave us 2 days of rain (the first on the island since 1/2/10). We also witnessed a re-enactment of the battle of Tamasite (1740) when the islanders slaughtered the English Privateers and as if that wasn't enough of a confrontation Robbie and John braved one of the local bars to watch Scotland vs Spain at football. The highlight of the stay was the game of golf Robbie and John played at the course John designed at Las Playitas.
Now it's time for a crew change, so it's off to Gran Canary to await the arrival of Wilf, Tony and Jen's internet shopping!
