What a great week Susie and I have had!! Mum
and Dad have had the awful chore of taking us around Pirates cove, Atheni,
Vathi and Scorpios Island (owned by the Onassis family dontcha know!!) for
endless swimming in crystal clear water, BBQ's off the back of the boat,
sunbathing (clothes on unlike the Germans!) and Gin and Tonics at sundown
(except for me and "Barry the Bump"). What a hard life Mum and Dad are
leading as tour guides for the Ionian!! The idea was to come and have
a relaxing week on the boat, and by golly we have had just that! The pics
enclosed don't do our holiday justice!! One of the pics is of us all in a
taverna called Pirates Cove, where the showers were better than many I have had
in hotels! And the local jetty was policed by a chap who looked like Jesus
that Susie and I decided was the local dealer on his motorbike! I believe those
of you who have been out here already know him as Costa!
Sadly one of the pictures appears to show a whale
skippering the boat, greenpeace weren't notified and the whale wasn't pushed
back out to sea or harpooned by a passing Japanese whaling fleet! I can
only apologise for the choice in pics (certainly not mine!!)
Susie and her rowing efforts were hilarious,
difficult to believe she rows for a club on the Thames!! However her ability to
try and navigate the tender enabled her to rescue a cicada that had crawled up
one of our shore lines that was tethered to an olive tree. The cicada had
fallen off the rope into the water, so Susie rowed out to it, tried to launch it
ashore with an oar but failed, so had to flick it into the tender. She
then rowed ashore, but as the bug had dried out by then, she was much less
reluctant to pick it back up and get it out of the boat! Instead she
hopped ashore, almost stepped on a sea urchin and after some cajoling from
the crew left on the yacht, flicked said bug unceremoniously into the
nearest bush! There ended her rowing experiences in the
Ionian!!
We went to a taverna in the port of Vathi having
gone alongside at the Odyseas Marina, where my brother Duncan gave us a tourist
tip (well food tip!!) that hailed from when he was here back in 1998, the Rose
Garden Taverna was fab as was the menu choice (and Duncs, Susie took pics of the
pork souvlaki to really rub it in)!!!!
We can throughly recommend Gilly B sailing
holidays, and leave knowing that Mum and Dad are jammy beyond all
jamminess!!
