Dear Family & Friends,
The mediterranean branch of the CCC (ladies wot
sew) met in early August! That is Eileen and I had a really good get
together but we didn't manage any sewing! To re-cap. We were
in Mallorca and went to Port Soller where we anchored just off the beach and
then realised that we could go round the tip of Mallorca (NE coast) and across
to Menorca before the Ritchies went home on 5th August. It was all looking
good until the weather on Friday 31st went wrong and prevented us leaving
Soller. Actually there was a bomb in Palma which closed all the ports and
we couldn't have left then anyway. The next day we had to go
and show our passports before we could leave. We passed some very
high and impressive cliffs as we motor sailed round Mallorca and then left its
shores heading for the smaller island. We had a really good sail
over and headed for Mahon Harbour where we were to meet Ian &
Eileen. Thank goodness for mobile telephones.
I won't say too much and embarass
them, but they were VERY KIND and we had a fantastic time, which
included Ian organising a berth, Eileen doing the washing, staying with them for
two nights and visiting their local fiesta. A great privilege as we
had no idea what to expect. All I can say is health and safety doesn't come
into it and the beer is used for drinking and showering!! The horses and
the band were amazing too. We finished our visit with supper on the boat
and they have hopefully flown safely back to Suffolk.
Mahon is a beautiful port with lots of places to
anchor and also buoys to pick up. We are now anchored in a small cala
near the entrance and surrounded by the forts and buildings reminding us of its
turbulent history.
Graham is pleased with life because he finally got
his tuna. It was a very large one and after cutting it all up (very
messy) we have some steaks in the fridge, gave a couple to the Ritchies
and also to a Scottish couple we met here whilst they were waiting for a new
part for their auto-helm. We BBQ'd tuna steaks last night and
they were delicious.
Bye For Now
