These are some photos we took at Gatun locks from the viewing platform the day before we went through the canal. This is a panamax ship sliding past with

inches to spare on either side. The speed which it could move through the three lock system was impressive. The total time for ships to transit is normally about

the same as sailboats at around 8 to 10 hours.
