Sunrise at anchorage “Vineyard Haven”. We have to leave in a hurry to New Port.
We need to get the autopilot fixed Yesterday afternoon after we topped off the
tanks at Menashe the trouble started. First we could not get the engines started
and found out that the engine starter battery was totally depleted was not
recharging since we left Huntington. That was easy to fix by just switching the
bypass to the house batteries on. Then on the way to anchor for the night the
autopilot started whining constantly and finally gave out. I am beginning to
think these things are possessed. After we ate the sandwiches that David had
bought at Menashe we spent the better part of the evening troubleshooting the
autopilot. Final diagnosis: “Scrambled brain” and we do not know how to
unscramble it. So now we are off to Newport looking for a “autopilot
psychiatrist”. The skipper says he has dealt with quite a few of them, some are
very good then others not so good. I hope the guy or gal (very unlikely) is good
this time. |
