We quickly fell in love with the place which seemed to be existing in a 1960’s time-warp. The buildings were rather ramshackle wood and thatched huts with only one resort which also provided accommodation in thatched huts (although these were rather more upmarket).The tiny island had no cars or motor-bikes – the only transport was pony and trap or bicycle and all the roads were simply sand – but there were plenty of places at which to eat, drink and simply relax. Relaxation was made easy by a plentiful supply of massage parlours where a 90-minute full body massage cost £6! Those feeling a little more energetic headed for the numerous dive shops. We met up with other Oyster folk at a beach bar to round off the evening, and finding a rather lethargic but good, band, performing to a handful of unimpressed local folk, we decided to join in. The band found a new lease of life and did their best to meet our requests so that by the time we left everyone was up dancing, including the bemused local folk.
