New York to Northport Harbour Long Island.
Sunday 31st May.

Distance sailed 46 miles

On our way into the West 79th St. Boat Basin Shelduck went aground near the
entrance so she had to leave near high water and this meant she would have
to traverse the East River against the tide. Good fun as we ducked behind
curves in the river to reduce it's impact. We had help to leave the marina
at 07.30 and then contacted Gretta and Joe's son Paul who wanted to take a
picture of Shelduck on the East River where the views of New York are
stunning. Anne and I enjoyed every minute and managed to get into Northport
Harbour just ahead of a thunderstorm at 17.00 after a great sail in Long
Island Sound. I had arranged for a mooring from Northport Yacht Club, one of
the easiest and best Anne and I had ever picked up. Shelduck is staying put
until Wednesday when the cold wet weather we have now is forecast to clear
for a couple of days.
